SUNSHINE COAST CHURCHES REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION

2023 Referees’ course Joining Instructions.

The information of this page was sent as an email to all those registered for the 2023 referee course

The SCCRA 2023 referee course will be held on Saturdays 11th and 18th February and on Thursday 23rd February. The Saturday sessions will run from 8am to 3pm, the Thursday session from 6.30pm to 8pm. Attendance is required at each of these sessions. If for any reason you can’t attend for any or part of one of these sessions, you should discuss the issue with me (Dave Logan) as soon as possible.

Venues

Both Saturday sessions will be held in the upstairs hall at New Life Church, Nambour.

From Bruce Highway, travel West on Nambour Connection Road aprox 5.5km and turn left onto McKenzie Rd (at Nambour Christian College).

Turn right into Nambour Christian College main entrance. The first building as you come down the driveway is the building in which the course will be held. You may park in the car park and head to the covered area at the front of the building to sign in.

The Thursday evening session will be held at the Chancellor Club’s home ground (Palmview Sporting Fields in Recreation Drv Palmview).

Sat 25th

On Saturday 25th, a couple of clubs hold internal “club days” with teams from within the club playing each other. Over the past few years, we have been able to take our new referees and give them some “hands on” experience and training. This has proven to be invaluable for new referees. If clubs make this available to us again this year, we will invite you to attend. It is NOT a compulsory training session, however it in your best interest to attend. We will invite you to come for about 90 minutes and will give you a time slot if you indicate that you will attend.

Course Cost

As previously advised, the course cost is $290. Included in this cost is the course itself, morning tea and lunch on both Saturdays, referee shirt, referee shorts, referee starter kit (set of flags, whistle, notebook, cards), referee registration. We don’t have EFPOS facilities, however we can arrange for payment to made into the SCCRA bank account.

Our bank detail are: BSB 034198  Account#:   688159   If you decide to pay before the course, please make sure that you include your surname and “referee course” on the deposit.

Some things to note. We don’t want anyone to miss out because of the cost, so if the cost is a genuine problem, please discuss this with Brian Walsh, our Treasurer, who will be at the sign in desk on the first day of the course. The cost can be reduced if we have a second hand uniform etc. available. Arrangements can also be made to pay off the course over your first few weeks of refereeing. The course cost will be reduced also for any second member of a family attending the course.

Course Presenters

The two presenters of the course will be myself (Dave Logan) and Jackson Davis. I have refereed for 50 years and have refereed at almost every level in Australia. I have been involved in Churches football since moving to the Sunny Coast 8 years ago. Jackson is a young man who started his refereeing with Churches and then moved to Football Queensland to further his career. He is now an NPL referee and a qualified referee instructor.

Other members of our Committee will also be at the course to answer questions and assist you where we can.

Application form

An application form is located below.  If you have not already done so, please complete the form and return the completed form to me by email. ( screfs@optusnet.com.au ).

We understand that not all teams for 2023 have yet been given their name by their club (panthers, tigers etc.), but if you know your team name, please include it. The more info that we have, the easier it will be to allocate you to games. Re the bank details. We do understand that this can be a sensitive question, however we need to have a bank account into which SCCSA Admin can make payments each week. Some people may like to open an account specifically for receiving payments –  all we need to know is where to send payments.

Refereeing

It is assumed that everyone doing the course will be available to referee in the SCCSA competition. If this is NOT the case for you, please advise Brian Walsh at the first day of the course BEFORE you make any course payments (because if you aren’t going to referee, you won’t need the uniform and referee registration fee).

It is usual for new referees to start with u9/u10 Rooball plus some lines on junior games. In most cases, referees would expect 2 or 3 games on a Saturday – depending on where and when they are playing. We will give you further details during the course.
